Extreme events are becoming increasingly frequent and severe under a changing climate, exerting adverse impacts on land surface, ecological, and hydrological processes. The interactions among land surface-ecology-hydrology systems and their feedback with the climate system further influence climate and environmental changes from regional to global scales. A scientific understanding of the evolution mechanisms of these processes, the development of modeling systems with varying complexities, and the provision of multi-scale predictions for land surface, hydrological, and ecological processes hold significant scientific importance for disaster prevention, mitigation, and addressing global climate change.
The CAS-TWAS-WMO Forum (CTWF), jointly initiated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), aims to establish an international cooperation platform for climate and environmental research. The 20th CTWF will bring together distinguished scholars from various fields, including atmospheric sciences, hydrology, ecology, geography, environmental sciences, and other interdisciplinary areas. Participants will engage in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge scientific issues, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration to provide scientific support and solutions for disaster risk reduction, water resource management, ecological restoration, and climate change adaptation policies and engineering planning.
Additionally, the workshop will provide the platform for early-career scientists from developing countries to interact and collaborate with leading international experts, enhancing capacity building in climate and environmental research and contributing to regional and global sustainable development goals.
